Criminology Major

The Bachelor of Arts program in criminology is designed to enhance students’ understanding of how crime is defined, analyzed, and addressed in policy and practice.

Major Requirements (Effective Fall 2022):

Required Courses (4 units)

  • CRI 100: Introduction to Criminology
  • CRI 205: Criminology
  • CRI 306: Research Methods
  • CRI 499: Senior Capstone in Policy Analysis

Bounded Electives (1 unit)

Institution Requirement. Select one from below:

  • CRI 200: Policing
  • CRI 201: Judicature
  • CRI 202: Penology

Methods Option (1 unit)

Select one from below:

  • CRI 215: Data Management and Analysis
  • CRI 317: Introduction to Crime Mapping
  • CRI 370: Qualitative Methods

Major Electives (6 units)

  • At least 4 at the 300 level or higher**
  • At least 1 must fulfill the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Requirement (i.e., CRI 256: Women in the Criminal Justice System, CRI 304: Victimology, or CRI 352: Race, Crime, and Justice)

Becoming a Criminology Major: Upon successful completion of Criminology (CRI 100), please complete the Change of Major form and submit it to the Department of Criminology Office (SSB 304).
